A gloriously beautiful Joan in the 30's |
Gallery Twelve
of the actress who bothered to give us mere mortals a little splash of heaven and grit in operatic portions. Behold
the Maria Callas of movies! Those eyes of hers had literary range -- they were beautiful, expressive, huge, dreamy, frightened,
calculating, sensual, fiery, wild and intense. Some say Bette Davis eyes. I say Joan Crawford eyes. - D.

Rare photo of Joan (still Lucille) at St. Stephen's College |
Joan (below) being escorted from Al Steele's funeral on April 22, 1959.
She is heavily veiled and sobbing into her handkerchief. Some people like Dorothy Streslin and Radie Harris claim
in interviews that Joan was calm and organized surrounding funeral and later carried on as if he was there, not one to
cry and moan, yet apparently this is not quite true --another of the endless urban myths that surround Joan.
Another friend reported that she was torn apart by the loss of Steele and photos show her obviously crying. Co-star
Judy Geeson said she still kept cornflakes in her kitchen cabinet for him.
