How it began

I wanted to create the kind of tours I myself would want to take of New York City.  I began as a tourist.  As a writer, I focus on fascinating tales along with historical detail, scandal, ghosts (where possible), and architecture.  New York City is rich and dense with art, culture, industry, history and the famous and infamous.  There are tales for every corner, every building, every neighborhood.  I want to bring some sense of what has made New York City one of the most vibrant, exciting, and greatest cities in the world.  I have escorted tourists from all over the country and world, including from Italy, South Africa, Canada, New Zealand, Scandinavia, Romania and Australia.  I have done step-on tours with students, seniors and a mix of ages, and my clients have included people from all walks of life, including farmers, a diplomat, a CIA agent, doctors and designers.  I have also worked as a tour manager for education, arts-oriented clients where I have escorted school groups from all over the country over periods ranging from two to five days.

Along with being a licensed NYC sightseeing guide, I am an author and cartoonist.  My most recent book Just Joan:  A Joan Crawford Appreciation was voted "Editor's Pick" by DAEIDA MAGAZINE in Hollywood.  I also write mysteries with a series character, the bombastic amateur sleuth, Miss Iodine Bell.  Miss Bell mysteries have also been performed and broadcast on the radio by Shoestring Radio Theatre in San Francisco.  I am an active member of Mystery Writers of America.  My personal website, featuring more about my work and samples of my cartoons, can be found here:  website of Donna Marie Nowak
