Donna's Radio Work

This page is a work in progress!

My "Miss Bell" mysteries (featuring my bombastic amateur sleuth, Miss Iodine Bell) have been broadcast and performed on "Shoestring Radio Theatre" which airs on its flagship station KUSF, San Francisco (Wednesday nights from 9:30 - 10:00 P.M.) and then nationally across the country on the Public Radio Satellite System a few weeks (or months) later.  "Shoestring Radio Theatre" debuted on the Public Radio Satellite Network (which reaches hundreds of public radio stations across the country) in July, 1993, and has since become one of the most prominent radio drama troupes in the country. The program also is heard on Golden Hours Radio in the state of Oregon and the Companion Radio Network (transmitted to convalescent homes, veterans hospitals, and rehabilitation centers throughout the country). In total, the program has a confirmed line-up of 111 stations in North America.  The following "Miss Bell" mysteries have aired (or are in line to air):

Saved by Miss Bell

At the first fete for a group of online mystery writers, held at a historical judge’s home, a blonde is found in the library. It’s no act – she’s dead, but the body mysteriously disappears. Later an identically dressed blonde is found on the cellar stairs. Miss Iodine Bell investigates.

Santa Overboard

During an Alaskan cruise with 21 Santa Clauses aboard, a Santa is found floating in Glacier Bay.  But none of the Santas are missing.  Together with one of the cruise ship dancers, Miss Iodine Bell uncovers who killed the bogus Kris Kringle.

Something Witchy This Way Comes

While returning from Baxter State Park, a storm forces a girl to take shelter at a Gothic inn run by three witches. There, during a séance, one of the guests keels over, apparently poisoned, and weird screams are heard in the night. Miss Iodine Bell, also a guest at the inn, determines to find out the truth behind the spooky goings-on.

Sparky Goes to Doris Day's Hotel

Miss Iodine Bell and her poodle Sparky head to the Cypress Inn, Doris Day’s dog-friendly inn at Carmel-by-the-Sea. As it turns out, a dog pageant is happening locally, the inn is mobbed, and a prize-winning terrier gets pinched. Miss Bell enters Sparky in the dog show to discover who pulled the canine caper.

Sideshow Murders

Miss Iodine Bell visits the Coney Island Sideshow to support her young neighbor Valentine who has a gig as an announcer.  There she learns that a series of mysterious accidents have been befalling the sideshow and all seem connected to the sword swallower/ballerina Bathsheba who headlines and may or may not be a Black Widow.
